CSN tees up ‘In the Fairway’ series: Great golf courses, and our poor swings, are on display

Oceana Golf Club was the first stop of CatchMark SportsNet’s fun and informative series.

At CatchMark SportsNet, our team loves to share stories about our local athletes and their squads.

We still love to play sports ourselves, too, even if for some our bodies are suggesting it’s time to hang it up.

One place where we can still get by occasionally is on the golf course. On that topic, we’re teeing up a new summer series called “CatchMark SportsNet In the Fairway.”

The series title may be a touch ironic, considering we’re in the fairway less than we’re in the rough … or in the woods. But the goal of the show is to highlight local golf courses, their histories, some of their unique features and why you should play those tracks.

As a bonus, we take it a step further: We’re taking some hacks ourselves on featured holes.

With vantage points ranging from a bird’s-eye view high above the course to as low as ground level, we’ve captured some beautiful, jaw-dropping imagery. We’ve also prompted quite a few laughs with some wild shots and playful banter.

The first stop of the CSN In the Fairway series was Oceana Golf Club, a public course founded in 1962 and located at 3333 W. Weaver Rd. in Shelby. We caught up with Marc Inglis, PGA Professional at Oceana Golf Club, who joined our group on the course and taught us a thing or two.

Watch the video above for Episode 1 of this new series.

Wow, been a long time since I played Oceana. Marc and his staff look like they have done a fantastic job in making that course beautiful. Way better than that course on the hill a few miles to the south. Way to go Marc.
