Busy week of games, highlighted by the big one this Friday.

It’s officially high school basketball season in Michigan.

The girls got it started last week, and the boys get underway this week. From now through March, it will be wall-to-wall basketball.

West Michigan Conference girls basketball play tipped off last Friday. For the boys, the league race begins this Friday.

Here are schedules this week (Dec. 6-10, 2021) for girls and boys teams in the conference, followed by announcement of our Game of the Week:

CATCHMARK SPORTSNET GAME OF THE WEEK

Oakridge at Montague boys, 7 p.m. Friday: The West Michigan Conference boys basketball slate opens with some dandies this Friday, but this looks to be the best of the bunch.

Last season, the teams played three barn-burners and the Wildcats came out in top in all three: 50-48, 58-57 in overtime and 66-63 in OT in the first round of the Division 2 district tournament.

Both squads look to be conference-title contenders this season. Seniors Garrett Wever, Ethan Jozsa and Hunter DeLora return to lead Oakridge. Tate Stine is back for Montague after missing the 2020-21 season with a knee injury, and he’ll lead the way alongside fellow seniors Colton Blankstrom and Tugg Nichols plus talented sophomore Isaiah Atchison.

CatchMark will provide live audio of the game on our website, plus we’ll be producing the live video stream as per usual.

Isaiah is only a sophomore not a junior…. don’t rush him out of the house too soon, he is responsible for hanging the Christmas lights evey year!
