It’s Week 3 of the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll for 2023 spring sports.

Six spring sports athletes from the conference who stood out in competitions April 17-22 have been nominated.

Time to get voting.

The poll can be found at the bottom of this story after brief capsules on the nominees. The poll closes at noon Friday, April 28.

Athletes are listed alphabetically:

BRENNA CABRERA, Oakridge softball

The Eagles sophomore continued to hit the ball well last week. In a 13-4 West Michigan Conference Lakes Division win over visiting Whitehall Tuesday, she doubled twice and finished with three hits. In a nonleague sweep on the road against Byron Center (6-5 and 10-3), Cabrera homered and drove in two in Game 1 and hit a three-run homer in Game 2.

RILEY CHASE, Fremont soccer

The Packers sophomore had a big week in a pair of games. In Wednesday’s 7-0 West Michigan Conference win over visiting Manistee, Chase tallied two goals and two assists. She really went on a tear in an 8-6 nonleague loss Friday at Howard City Tri County, netting five of Fremont’s six goals.

MALCOLM EARVIN, Whitehall track and field

The Vikings junior continues to lead the pack in the West Michigan Conference when it comes to the sprints. In last Tuesday’s WMC quad at Whitehall also featuring Hart, Oakridge and Holton, Earvin cruised to victories in the 100-meter dash (11.42 seconds) and 200 dash (23.26). He also ran a leg on the winning 4×200 relay team (1:31.37), a quartet which won a state title in the event last season, as well as on the first-place 4×400 relay (3:37.94).

BRODY JENNINGS, Oakridge baseball

The junior right-hander earned a complete-game pitching win in a 9-3 victory over visiting Whitehall last Tuesday. He allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Jennings helped his own cause with a pair of hits offensively.

MAX SCHARP, Manistee golf

The Chippewas freshman turned some heads by taking medalist honors at the Traverse City Central Tee Off event Friday and Saturday. At Crystal Mountain Resort, Scharp shot 75 on Friday and 74 on Saturday to win the two-day event by three strokes. As a team, Manistee placed a respectable fifth.

ASHLEY TENBRINK, Whitehall soccer

The Vikings senior netted a hat trick, scoring all three of her team’s goals, in last Thursday’s 3-2 victory over visiting Hart in West Michigan Conference action. On the season, TenBrink has three goals and on assist.
