As the winter regular season comes to a close, CatchMark SportsNet is proud to recognize the outstanding student-athletes who earned Player of the Week honors throughout the season.
From milestone performances to clutch moments, postseason championships to historic scoring achievements, this winter was filled with athletes who stepped up when it mattered most.
Here’s a look back at our 2025 Winter Player of the Week winners:
Gavyn Maddox – Montague Wrestling
Montague made a statement at the Big Rapids Cardinal Invitational, finishing 4–1 in a competitive 10-team dual-meet tournament.
Leading the charge was Gavyn Maddox, who delivered a flawless 5–0 performance on the day. His unbeaten run helped power wins over Central Montcalm, Reed City, Lakeview, and East Kentwood. Maddox’s consistency and dominance were central to Montague’s strong showing — and a clear sign the Wildcats are building something special.
Highlight: Perfect 5–0 day at a 10-team invitational as Montague went 4–1.

Caleb Ackley – Hart Basketball
Caleb Ackley helped Hart go 3–0 on the week while staying undefeated. He posted at least 16 points and 9+ rebounds in each game, recording two double-doubles including his third in four games.
Across the three wins, Ackley totaled 34 points and 31 rebounds, shooting an outstanding 16-for-20 (80%) in games with full shooting stats reported. His efficiency and steady presence were key to Hart’s continued success.

Jayna Burmeister – Shelby Girls Basketball
Jayna Burmeister’s season was defined by dominant production. In a three-game span, she totaled 67 points (22.3 per game) and 44 rebounds (14.7 per game).
She backed that up with a takeover performance of 22 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 steals in a single game. Scoring, rebounding, and defensive disruption, Burmeister impacted every level of the game.

Kassie Sapp – Whitehall Girls Wrestling
Kassie Sapp continued her dominance at 130 pounds by capturing first place at the Lady MAT CAT Invitational in Montague.
Competing in a highly competitive field featuring more than 60 teams, the reigning state runner-up once again proved she is among the top wrestlers in West Michigan girls wrestling.

Liam Copenhaver – Reeths-Puffer Bowling
Liam Copenhaver posted the highest individual total reported during his winning week, taking first place at the Orchard View Cardinal Invitational with a 410 series (187, 223).
His 223 game ranked among the top single games across both boys and girls competition, and he helped lead Reeths-Puffer to a finals appearance.

Taylor Nutt – Ravenna Girls Bowling
Taylor Nutt helped keep Ravenna unbeaten while stacking dominant wins. She rolled standout games of 237 and 180, along with strong series performances throughout the week.
Her consistency at the top of the lineup has been a major reason the Bulldogs continue to control matches and rack up lopsided victories.

Rilynn Porter – Hart Girls Basketball
Rilynn Porter delivered the winter season’s most clutch moment, calmly sinking three free throws with 0.7 seconds remaining to lift Hart to a dramatic 41–39 conference win over North Muskegon.
She led the Pirates with 15 points and showed exceptional composure in one of the most intense finishes of the season.

Miguel Escamilla – Hart Boys Basketball
Miguel Escamilla turned in one of the most complete performances of the season during Hart’s 73–30 win over Shelby.
He finished with 13 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals, narrowly missing a triple-double while impacting every phase of the game. His all-around play helped Hart dominate a rivalry matchup.

Haegan Hansen – Hart Wrestling
Haegan Hansen reached a major career milestone at Shelby’s Super Duals, earning his 100th career victory while finishing the day 5–0 with three pins.
His performance helped Hart secure wins over Shelby, Decatur, and Fremont, showcasing both leadership and dominance.

Cole VanderHaag – Mason County Central Basketball
Senior Cole VanderHaag etched his name into program history by becoming just the 10th player in MCC history to reach 1,000 career points.
He scored 21 points in the milestone game against North Muskegon, then followed it up with a 28-point performance against Orchard View, including 15 in the third quarter, while adding four steals to spark second-half separation.

Zaniya Meza – Montague Wrestling
Zaniya Meza rose to the moment in postseason competition, capturing an individual district championship to advance to regionals.
Winning multiple matches in a win-or-go-home bracket takes composure and confidence and Meza delivered exactly that.

Liam Leeke – Whitehall Wrestling
Liam Leeke captured a Division 3 Regional Championship at 157 pounds, earning his place at the MHSAA State Finals and helping Whitehall produce 10 state qualifiers.
Navigating a deep, high-pressure bracket takes grit and focus — and Leeke proved himself among the elite in his weight class.
