Several athletes across West Michigan delivered standout performances this week, shining on the court and on the mat in high-level competition. From a stat-stuffing effort under the bright lights of Van Andel Arena, to an efficient all-around showing in a dominant team win, to a championship performance at a large statewide wrestling tournament, these three athletes rose above the rest and earned nominations for Player of the Week. Taylor DeKuiper – Fremont Girls Basketball
Taylor DeKuiper put together a dominant all-around performance in Fremont’s 60–38 win over Fruitport at Van Andel Arena. The junior standout filled the stat sheet with 22 points, 14 rebounds, seven steals, and five assists, showcasing her ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor in a big-stage environment.
Kassie Sapp – Whitehall Girls Wrestling
Kassie Sapp continued her dominance on the mat by capturing a first-place finish at 130 pounds at the Lady MAT CAT Invitational in Montague. Competing in a large, highly competitive field featuring more than 60 teams, the reigning state runner-up once again proved why she is one of the top wrestlers in the West Michigan girls wrestling scene.
Adam Dugener – North Muskegon Boys Basketball
Adam Dugener delivered an efficient and well-rounded performance to lead the Norse to a 66–35 victory over Oakridge. Dugener scored 22 points on just 14 shots while adding nine rebounds, seven assists, and four steals, controlling the pace of the game and setting the tone from the opening tip.
