Montague Takes Down Orchard View Ahead of Rivalry Clash

“Be vewy, vewy quiet”

It sure felt like Montague came out Friday with revenge on its mind. After last week’s tough loss to Oakridge, the Wildcats were hunting for redemption—and unfortunately for the Cardinals, they were the first birds in sight.

Both squads entered the night desperate for a win after back-to-back losses. The Wildcats needed to prove they still had bite with the Battle for the Bell against Whitehall looming. Orchard View was fighting to avoid slipping to 0-3.

The ‘Gue wasted no time setting the tone. They punched in an early score, then capped the first quarter with a pick and another touchdown to storm ahead, 27-8.

The Cards showed some spark with a blocked extra point and a quick score to start the second, but Montague wasn’t about to let the momentum swing for long. Another touchdown and extra point stretched the lead to 33-8 before halftime.

By the third quarter, the Wildcats were rolling. Two more scores pushed their advantage to a commanding 33 points heading into the fourth. Orchard View kept battling, finding pay dirt once more, but Montague sealed the deal with a final touchdown to slam the door.

Final score: Montague 54, Orchard View 20.

The Wildcats climb back to 2-1 on the season, setting the stage for a massive Battle for the Bell showdown with Whitehall next week at E.G. Townsend. The Vikings are coming in hot after knocking off reigning Division 3 state champ Zeeland West—meaning the rivalry is about to hit another gear.

As for Orchard View, the Cardinals drop to 0-3 and will try to get back on track when they host Manistee in another WMC Rivers clash.
