Some of West Michigan’s top track and field athletes gathered Tuesday evening at Fruitport High School for the annual West Michigan All-Star Track & Field Meet, where warm late-spring weather and ideal track conditions helped produce standout performances, thrilling close finishes, personal bests, and several memorable moments as athletes from across the lakeshore region competed against elite competition one final time before the MHSAA State Finals.
Hart Pirates Shine Bright
Hart produced one of the most impressive all-around performances of the meet, highlighted by distance dominance from the Ackley brothers and sprint excellence from Chase Lorenz.
Meet Champions
- Two Pirates captured overall event championships:
- Chase Lorenz — 400 Meter Champion
- Lorenz won the 400 meters in 49.76, one of the top sprint performances of the evening. He also added a 3rd-place finish in the 100 meters.
- Carson Ackley — 3200 Meter Champion
- Ackley captured the 3200-meter title in 10:18.81, edging teammate Silas Ackley by an astonishing 0.07 seconds in one of the closest races of the night.
- Silas Ackley finished runner-up in 10:18.88, giving Hart a dominant 1-2 finish in the event.
- Chase Lorenz — 400 Meter Champion

Mason County Central Highlights
The Mason County Central boys team turned in an impressive showing against a loaded all-star field, led by hurdler Jackson Poll, who continued his outstanding postseason form ahead of the state meet.
Poll earned:
- 2nd place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.48
- 3rd place in the 300-meter hurdles in 41.44
Poll also helped the Spartans’ 4×200 relay squad of Kolby Kessell, Jayden Reams, Caleb Bennetts, and Jackson Poll place 5th overall with a time of 1:36.32.
Additional strong performances for Mason County Central included:
- Desmond Thomas — 4th in discus (133’10”)
- Eli Smith — 5th in long jump (20’5½”)
The meet provided valuable final competition experience for state qualifiers Poll and Smith while also allowing several Spartan athletes to end their seasons on a high note against premier regional talent.
On the girls side, Mason County Central also delivered notable performances:
- Maylan Sanders placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best 45.31
- Sanders also earned 3rd in the 100 hurdles
- The girls 4×400 relay team finished 3rd
- Faith Hawke placed in both throwing events, taking:
- 3rd in discus (116’7”)
- 4th in shot put (32’4½”)
Notable Performances & Meet Highlights
Several athletes delivered exceptional marks and personal bests during the meet:
Sprint Standouts
- Keiavion Korenstra (Grand Haven) won the boys 100 meters in 10.72
- Austin Langeland (Coopersville) captured the 200 meters in a personal-best 21.75
- Chloe Anderson (Fruitport) swept the girls 100 and 200 meter titles
Distance Excellence
- Luka Hammond (Grand Haven) won the boys 1600 meters in 4:13.19
- The boys 3200 meters featured one of the tightest finishes of the meet between Carson and Silas Ackley
- Eliza Schwass (Ludington) won the girls 800 meters in an impressive 2:12.92
Relay Highlights
- Fruitport won the boys 4×200 relay on their home track in 1:33.13
- Newaygo captured both the girls 4×200 and girls 4×400 relays
- Muskegon Mona Shores won the boys 4×400 relay in 3:32.96
Field Event Highlights
- Caden Bowyer (Whitehall) dominated the boys discus with a personal-best throw of 166’4”
- SeanPaul O’Brien (Fruitport) won the boys long jump with a PB of 21’6¼”
- Evan McHugh (Reeths-Puffer) cleared 14’0” to win the boys pole vault
The annual West Michigan All-Star Meet once again showcased the tremendous depth of track and field talent across the region. With state meet competition approaching for several athletes, Tuesday’s event provided both a final tune-up and a celebration of outstanding spring seasons.
