Area bowling teams opened the season Wednesday at Northway Lanes, with Ravenna’s girls picking up a dominant win while Whitehall earned a sweep over Ludington in the Orioles’ first match of the year.
Ravenna girls cruise past Orchard View
Ravenna wasted no time showing why it’s the defending state champion, blasting Orchard View 28-2 to start the season with authority.
The Bulldogs were paced by Reese Herremans, who fired games of 141 and 187, while Gabby Nutt added a strong series with 142 and 163. Joslyn Nutt contributed a 161, and Kendyl Luce chipped in games of 139 and 121. Ravenna also got support from Taylor Nutt (131), Linzie Denhof (122) and Briahna Burns (120).
Ravenna returns to action against Whitehall on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
Whitehall takes both matches from Ludington
Also at Northway Lanes, Ludington’s girls and boys teams opened their seasons against Whitehall, with both squads coming up short against the Vikings. The Ludington girls fell 16-14, and the boys dropped a 29-1 decision.
The Orioles girls found success early by winning both Baker games, but struggled to keep pace during individual play. In Game 1, Ludington was led by Rylie Arklet (114) and Natalee Ruggero (113), followed by Lauryn Payne (83), Lilly Bolton (82) and Brianna Fay (68). In Game 2, Ruggero posted a team-best 135, while Payne added 99, Bolton 92, Arklet 109, and Tayten Jolly rolled 70.
Ludington’s boys competed shorthanded with only three bowlers, a factor in the final score, but still put together a solid first game. Trenton Riggero led the way with a 158, with Matt Odegaard (154) and Jaxon Payne (153) close behind. In Game 2, Riggero rolled 99, Odegaard 123, and Payne 129.
