Ep. 3 of ‘Earned Not Given:’ Process over result emphasized with Montague’s Lady Mat Cats

In the final episode of this series, we document action and reaction from MHSAA individual state finals.

MONTAGUE — Montague’s Lady Mat Cats were well-represented on the big stage at the Michigan High School Athletic Association individual wrestling state finals March 1-2 at Ford Field.

They were joined by two members of the Wildcats’ boys team.

“Process over result” is a theme for Montague’s wrestling program. Collectively, the Lady Mat Cats and Mat Cats alike learned what that means.

Five of the seven girls on the Lady Mat Cats squad competed among the state’s best at the finals. Montague junior Ava Pelton and senior Emma Pendell made it to the medal stand in their respective weight classes, earning third place at 155 pounds and seventh at 145, respectively.

On the boys’ side, senior Jimmy Thommen claimed fourth place at 113 pounds.

That’s three all-staters for Montague overall.

If the process is solid, and it’s followed, then more often than not the results will come.
