Game postponed: Montague girls soccer opener vs. Fremont wiped out by inclement weather

Montague’s girls soccer team was scheduled to kick off its 2022 season today (March 30, 2022) at home against Fremont in a 5 p.m. nonleague match, however the game has been postponed because of inclement weather. It had been selected as the CatchMark SportsNet Competition of the Week.

CatchMark was planning to produce a free livestream on the CatchMark SportsNet YouTube channel, but Mother Nature had other plans.

The makeup date will be Thursday, May 12th.

This was scheduled to be the season opener for Montague, which finished 12-5 overall last season. It would have been the fourth match already for Fremont. The Packers (2-1) have posted back-to-back victories over Hart (8-1) and Comstock Park (4-1) after a season-opening loss to Muskegon Catholic Central (2-1).

This match would have been a preview of a budding divisional rivalry, as Montague and Fremont will be competing as conference opponents next season. Beginning with the 2022-23 academic year, Fremont is one of six schools joining the West Michigan Conference. The Packers and Wildcats both will be in the “large-school” division.
