Fruitport Boys Basketball Brings the Energy to CatchMark for Media Day

Fruitport Varsity Boys Basketball stopped by CatchMark for a team media day, and it felt less like a “photo shoot” and more like one of those moments that reminds you what high school sports are really about—teammates, laughs, and the kind of confidence that shows up when a group is truly clicking.

Between the pictures and videos, the best part was simply watching the guys be themselves. There were inside jokes flying around, teammates hyping each other up, and plenty of smiles in between the “game face” moments. It was the kind of atmosphere that makes you think: this team is going to be fun to watch this winter.

Even when the cameras were rolling, it was clear Fruitport has something you can’t fake—chemistry. Guys were cheering each other on, cracking jokes, and stepping in to make sure nobody felt awkward standing in front of a lens. That’s what good teams do: they make each other better, on and off the court.

And when it came time to lock in, they did. The switch from “messing around with your friends” to “all business” happened fast—which is usually a sign of a group that knows what it wants this season.

Big Goals, Big Standards: Coach Steve Erny’s Season Vision

Heading into the year, Head Coach Steve Erny made it clear this group isn’t just showing up—they’re chasing something.

After Fruitport captured the first conference championship in program history last season, the mindset now is to build on that momentum.

“Our expectations this year are to build upon the standards set in recent years and continue to elevate the program,” Erny said.

The goals are straightforward—and ambitious:

  • Repeat as conference champions
  • Win a District Championship, a milestone the program has been chasing for a long time

And the biggest difference? Experience.

This year’s roster returns key minutes, leadership, and confidence—plus a hunger to take the next step.
