That’s why the first round already feels different: every possession will be a battle, every momentum swing will hit harder, and rivalries won’t just bring the noise… they’ll determine who’s still dancing next week.

Who do you think punches their ticket past round one?

District 4 — Muskegon

Where: Mona Shores Sailor Center
When: Starts Monday, Mar. 2 and runs through Friday, Mar. 6

  • Mona Shores
  • Reeths Puffer
  • Greenville
  • Cedar Springs
  • Rockford
  • Muskegon

Watch out for Muskegon and Rockford as the clear favorites. Muskegon is 17-2 and unbeaten in the OK Green, with wins over Rockford 58-51 plus decisive sweeps of Mona Shores and Reeths Puffer. Rockford is 19-1, 10-0 in the OK Red, and their only loss is to Muskegon, plus they blasted Greenville 75-41. The best threats are Cedar Springs, who beat Greenville twice, and Greenville, making those matchups the ones most likely to deliver a tight, high energy game.

District 74 — Kent City

Where: Kent City High School (The Nest)
When: Starts Monday, Mar. 2 and runs through Friday, Mar. 6

  • Western Michigan Christian
  • North Muskegon
  • Ravenna
  • Kent City

District 74 is a four team bracket, so everyone gets a bye and it jumps straight to the semis with Kent City vs North Muskegon and Western Michigan Christian vs Ravenna. Kent City looks favored after a strong season and a win over Ravenna 53-43, while North Muskegon is 11-9 and has already lost to both WMC 54-26 and Ravenna 53-33. The game to watch is WMC vs Ravenna since WMC won the first meeting 40-28, but Ravenna brings the better record at 14-6, making them the most likely upset threat.

District 73 — White Cloud

Where: White Cloud High School (White Cloud)
When: Starts Monday, Mar. 4 and runs through Friday, Mar. 6

  • Shelby
  • Hesperia
  • Holton
  • Hart
  • White Cloud

District 73 at White Cloud has a clear favorite in Shelby at 18-2 and 12-0 in league play. The opener Hesperia vs Holton looks like a Holton edge since they already beat Hesperia twice 51-24 and 42-34. The game to circle is Shelby vs Hart, because their regular season meetings were tight with Shelby winning 49-38 and 53-44. White Cloud, the host at 7-10, is the wildcard that could make things interesting at home.

District 35 — Cadillac

Where: Cadillac High School
When: Starts Monday, Mar. 2 and runs through Friday, Mar. 6

  • Ludington
  • Big Rapids
  • Reed City
  • Fremont
  • Cadillac
  • Newaygo

District 35 at Cadillac is loaded, with Ludington, Fremont, and Big Rapids as the main teams to watch. Ludington won the West Michigan Conference at 14-6, split with Fremont after losing 48-36 then winning 49-48 in overtime, and also beat Reed City 37-25. Fremont is 16-3 and has already shown it can beat Ludington. Big Rapids might be the biggest threat, going 8-0 in the CSAA Red and 15-4 overall, including two wins over Reed City 58-24 and 47-30. Newaygo (11-8) adds another tough matchup, making this bracket wide open.

District 42 — Orchard View

Where: Orchard View High School
When: Starts Monday, Mar. 2 and runs through Friday, Mar. 6

  • Oakridge
  • Orchard View
  • Whitehall
  • Montague
  • Fruitport
  • Spring Lake

District 42 at Orchard View has Spring Lake sitting in the best spot as the clear team to watch, especially after blasting Fruitport 61-24 and bringing a 12-6 record into the bracket. In the openers, Orchard View vs Montague feels like a toss-up leaning Orchard View since they beat Montague twice 36-28 and 39-35, while Whitehall vs Oakridge leans Whitehall because they swept Oakridge 37-36 and 58-24 and also handled Orchard View 42-22 (even though Fruitport did beat Whitehall 45-33). If chalk holds, the most interesting potential matchup is Whitehall vs Fruitport (since Fruitport already got them once), but the path still runs through Spring Lake, who looks like the most complete team in this district.

District 69 — Glen Lake

Where: Glen Lake (Big Gym) – Maple City
When: Starts Monday, Mar. 2 and runs through Friday, Mar. 6

  • Kingsley
  • Traverse City St Francis
  • Mason County Central
  • Maple City Glen Lake
  • Manistee
  • Benzie Central

District 69 at Glen Lake Maple City has a few intriguing paths. Mason County Central vs Traverse City St Francis opens things up, and Mason County already proved it can compete by beating Maple City Glen Lake 54-50, though they did fall to Manistee 48-41. On the other side, Manistee vs Benzie Central leans toward Manistee after a strong 66-40 win over St Francis, while Benzie Central beat St Francis 42-28. St Francis has struggled against top teams, with losses to Kingsley 51-24 and Maple City 46-36. Based on results and overall records, Manistee looks like the team to watch, but Mason County Central has already shown it can knock off a top Northwest Conference team, making a potential Manistee vs Mason County matchup the one that could decide the district.
