Hart, Manistee compete in MITCA Division 3 team track state finals at Clare

Pirates boys place seventh, girls eighth; Manistee girls finish 10th.

Hart’s boys and girls track and field teams settled for middle-of-the-pack finishes in the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Division 3 state finals Saturday at Brookwood Athletic Complex in Clare.

Hart’s boys squad finished seventh among 16 teams, while the Pirates girls took eighth among 14. Manistee’s girls team placed 10th.

Clare won the title on the boys side with 1586 points, followed by Erie Mason second (1393.5), Chesaning third (1341), Adrian Madison fourth (1291.5) and Ithaca fifth (1276). Hart had 1249.5 points.

In the girls meet, Olivet captured the championship with 1412 points. Clare was runner-up (1220.5), followed by Traverse City St. Francis (1177), Adrian Madison (1109.5) and Lawton (1094.5). Hart finished with 1059.5 points, while Manistee had 871.

Hart senior Kellen Kimes was a double-winner in the boys meet, taking first in shot put (55 feet, 9 inches) and discus (174-6). Hart senior Clayton Ackley took first in the 1600-meter run (4:27.33).

For the girls, Hart sophomore Addi Hovey took first in the 100-meter dash (12.82) and she joined senior Aspen Boutell, junior Laura Bitely and freshman Addison Hain on the winning 4×100 relay (50.81).
