WHITEHALL — Whitehall hosted a West Michigan Conference track and field quad Tuesday (April 18, 2023) including Oakridge, Hart and Holton.
CatchMark SportsNet caught up with Hart senior Kellen Kimes, who last month captured a New Balance Nationals Indoor title in the weight throw with a mark of 78 feet, 4.25 inches. During a meet at Aquinas College in February, Kimes threw 77-8 in the weight throw to establish a state of Michigan record.
In Tuesday’s meet, Kimes won the shot put with a heave of 52-9, and he took first place in discus with a toss of 150-3. Immediately following the meet, he went to work on the hammer throw. Whitehall throws coach Joe Stachowicz has been helping Kimes with his throws.
Last season, Kimes captured the MHSAA Division 3 state title in discus and he was runner-up in shot put. He is a signee of Division I Liberty University.

Meanwhile, Whitehall’s boys team has looked very dominant out of the starting blocks this season. In Tuesday’s meet, the Vikings posted some lopsided scores: 129-8 over Oakridge, 88-49 over Hart, and 137-0 over Holton.
