Hart softball team’s postseason run ends in regional loss to Evart

Pirates won a district title for the second straight year.

Hart’s softball program won a district championship for the second straight year, but the Pirates’ postseason run came to an end Saturday with an 8-1 loss to Evart in the Division 3 regional semifinals at Clare.

The Pirates finish the season with a 19-14 overall record.

Evart (30-5) won the regional, defeating Beaverton 2-1 in the finals. The Wildcats advance to the state quarterfinals, where they will face the Gladstone-Kalkaska winner at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Petoskey.

Hart got on the board in the top of the first inning, but Evart answered in the bottom half to tie it at 1. Evart took the lead for good with two runs in the third and put it away with five in the sixth.
