Hart’s Trayce Tate earns CatchMark Player of the Week accolade (Feb. 14-19)

Pirates grappler to compete today at team state quarterfinals

Trayce Tate has been one of the West Michigan Conference’s most dominate wrestlers this season.

His success was highlighted in the eyes of voters as he brings home the CatchMark Player of the Week fan poll for Feb. 14-19, 2022.

Tate locked up 293 of 482 total fan votes, which was enough to pull away from Whitehall wrestling’s Shane Cook (124 votes) and fellow Pirate basketball player, Addi Hovey (65 votes).

The 119-pound grappler locked up a Division 3 individual regional championship last weekend at Howard City Tri County. As a junior, Tate will compete next weekend at the MHSAA Division 3 individual state championships at Ford Field along with other top wrestlers in the state.

In addition to his individual performance, Tate’s season success has contributed heavily to the Pirate’s team growth. The No. 5 seeded Hart squad (30-5) will wrestle this afternoon in the Division 3 quarterfinals at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo against fourth-seeded Imlay City (27-5).
