Join us at VanDyk Mortgage Power Hour, featuring legendary coach Jack Schugars

Coach who earned Hall of Fame status at Oakridge is fresh off D-II national title with Ferris State.

Hall of Famer Jack Schugars retired as Oakridge High School’s football coach in 2011. Since then, he’s been busy as ever.

Tonight (Dec. 30), he’ll be our guest on the VanDyk Mortgage Power Hour, hosted by North Grove Brewers in Montague at 6 p.m.

The live, weekly show will feature co-hosts Jon Russell, Mike Taylor and Cal VanSingel. Come out to North Grove, enjoy the food and drink options, and be entertained during the hour-long show. North Grove also features a pool table, darts and video games.

It’s been a memorable fall for Schugars. He assisted son Eric Schugars’ Traverse City Central football team, which made a run to the Division 2 state finals and faced Dan Rohn’s dominant Warren De La Salle squad. He also served as special teams coach for the powerhouse Ferris State University football team, which rolled to the Division II national championship.

At Ferris, Schugars has been a key assistant for head coach Tony Annese, who won three state titles with the Muskegon Big Reds and also coached basketball at Whitehall.

In 32 seasons as head coach at Oakridge, Jack Schugars amassed a 262-78 overall record with 19 West Michigan Conference championships and 20 playoff appearances. He guided the Eagles to three state titles and two state runner-up finishes.

Schugars was inducted in the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1993. He was inducted in the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

In addition to the live show at North Grove, the Power Hour is streamed on the CatchMark SportsNet YouTube channel. If you can’t make it out to North Grove, then you may get the live-stream feed by clicking the image at the top of this story.
