The Ludington Area School District has announced the hiring of Brent Gillett as the new head football coach at Ludington High School, marking an exciting new chapter for the Orioles football program. A longtime member of the LHS coaching staff, Gillett most recently led a record-setting offense that captured the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division Championship and completed a 9-0 regular season in 2025. His deep roots in the district, as an alumnus, former player, and dedicated leader within the athletic department, make this hire especially meaningful for the community. For fans, this represents continuity, proven success, and a strong commitment to building on recent achievements while inspiring the next generation of Orioles athletes.

Ludington High School Hires Head Football Coach
The Athletic Department of the Ludington Area School District is proud to announce the hiring of
Brent Gillett as the head football coach at Ludington High School. Mr. Gillett has been coaching
football at LHS since the 2012 season. Most recently, Gillett served as the offensive coordinator
and quarterbacks coach for the Orioles, leading the offense to set school records for points
scored during both the 2024 and 2025 campaigns. The high-flying offense helped the Orioles
secure the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division Championship and a 9-0 regular season
record during the fall of 2025. Gillett played a significant role in the development of All-State
Quarterback Cameron Gunsell, who set a school record for most touchdowns scored in both a
season and in a career; Gunsell’s career touchdown total ranks second all-time in the state of
Michigan.
Mr. Gillett participated in the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Leadership
Development Alliance in 2023, in partnership with the American Football Coaches Association
35 Under 35 Program, to create an intensive training program for future head coaches. Gillett
also previously worked with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League as a game
entry specialist, entering specific information to support the scouting department as the Browns
prepared for the NFL Draft.
In addition to his new role as head football coach at Ludington High School, Mr. Gillett serves as
the Middle School Athletic Director, Assistant High School Athletic Director, and Recreation
Director for the Ludington Area School District. Previously, Gillett served as the Dean of
Students at both O.J. DeJonge Middle School and Foster Elementary School.
Gillett is an alumnus of the Ludington Area School District and has been involved in the
Ludington High School football program since he served as a ball boy during his elementary
school years. Gillett also played for former LHS Coach Charlie Gunsell. After graduating from
LHS, Gillett earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from Central Michigan
University.
