WHITEHALL — It’s still a bit early in West Michigan Conference Lakes Division volleyball title chase.

Realistically, however, Montague couldn’t afford to slip again and stay in the race. The Wildcats played like a determined team Tuesday night.

Montague seemed a half-step ahead of rival Whitehall most of the evening, as the visiting Wildcats earned a four-set victory in WMC Lakes action. Montague defeated Whitehall, 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22.

With the win, Montague improves to 8-11-4 overall and 2-1 in the WMC Lakes. Whitehall is now 8-15 and 1-1, respectively.

Ludington (31-6-2) stands alone atop the WMC Lakes standings at 3-0. Fremont (20-10) is a half-game back in the standings at 2-0.

Next Tuesday, Montague hosts Ludington in another big WMC Lakes match.
