Montague’s Emma Pendell wins CatchMark Player of the Week (Jan. 10-15)

More than two-thirds of total vote lands Wildcat sophomore as Player of the Week.

Voters have determined that Montague wrestler Emma Pendell is the CatchMark Player of the Week for Jan. 10-15.

This was Emma’s first nomination of the season, and the first nomination for the Montague girl’s wrestling team.

Pendell has been a leading wrestler for the Wildcats throughout the entire season as a sophomore. Last weekend, she defeated four ranked wrestlers in route to her championship at the Northview Invitational.

The sophomore defeated the No. 3, 6 and 7 ranked ranked wrestlers at 145 pounds and the No. 4 ranked defending state champion at 140.

Pendell is now ranked No. 8 in the girls 140 weight class by Michigan Grappler. Her season performance has classified her as one of the best girl wrestlers in Michigan.

Pendell’s weekly performance received 71.6 percent of the total vote, landing her in the No. 1 spot. Whitehall wrestler Nick Blanchard followed with a runner-up finish and 25.1 percent of the total vote.
