Oakridge softball team to compete in suicide-awareness event Saturday at Mona Shores

Mona Shores hosting four-team event also including Allendale and Spring Lake.

Oakridge’s softball team is enjoying another banner season. With a 19-1 overall record, 10-0 West Michigan Conference mark and No. 6 ranking in Division 2, the Eagles are dominant yet again.

On Saturday, the focus will not be on them, however. Sure, they’ll be playing softball, but the spotlight will be on suicide awareness as the Eagles compete in the four-team Mona Shores Softball Invite at the Mona Shores Softball Complex.

At 10 a.m., Oakridge takes on Allendale on Field 2, while Mona Shores plays Spring Lake on Field 1. At 12:45 p.m., the winners of the first games will square off on Field 1 for the title, while the losers of the first games will play in a consolation on Field 2.

Mona Shores senior Elizabeth Savacool, a standout for the Sailors, has been a primary organizer of the suicide awareness softball tournament. She has generated nearly $2,000 in donations for charity and that is before anything money raised Saturday at the event.
