Paige Anderson is plenty familiar with Lincoln Golf Club, which is the home course for her Reeths-Puffer golf team.

The sophomore played like it, too, during Thursday’s Division 2 regional. She shot an 88 to punch her ticket to the Oct. 15-16 state finals at Bedford Valley in Battle Creek.

Reeths-Puffer finished in sixth place as a team with a score of 397. Mona Shores was fifth at 379.

“Paige has played awesome all year and yesterday was fun because when the pressure was on to make it, she came through with flying colors,” Reeths-Puffer coach Chris Carter said. “It will be fun to watch her gain the experience at the state tournament.

“As far as the team, they started off poorly but worked hard all day and I was really proud of the no-give-up they showed all day. We have a bright future here.”

The top three teams in the regional advance to the state finals. At Lincoln, that was regional champion East Grand Rapids (343), runner-up Coopersville (344) and third-place Forest Hills Northern (362).

The top three individuals not part of state-qualifying teams also advance. That included Forest Hills Central’s Skyler Tierney and Lowell’s Elle Sluss both with 84s, followed by Anderson, who placed 10th overall.

Forest Hills Northern’s Ashleigh Duflo was the regional medalist with a 77.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Montague’s defending state champion girls golf team traveled to Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids Tuesday to compete in the Division 4 regional tournament.

The Wildcats returned with another “Mitten,” capturing a second-straight regional trophy. They’ll compete in the Oct. 15-16 state finals at Michigan State University’s Forest Akers East.

Montague had four golfers place in the top 10 for a combined score of 354. The score was headed up by senior Orianna Bylsma, who shot an 83 to earn medalist honors.

Meanwhile, Whitehall qualified for the Division 3 state finals Oct. 15-16 at MSU’s Forest Akers West by placing second in Tuesday’s regional at Cadillac Country Club. The Vikings shot 373, led by regional medalist Karli VanDuinen’s 77.

The Vikings qualified for the Divsion 3 State Finals placing second overall at Cadillac Country Club earlier this week.

ANOTHER STATE QUALIFIER

Grand Haven’s girl’s golf team locked in its spot in the Division 1 state finals on Wednesday as the Buccaneers competed in their regional competition at Betsie Valley Golf Course in Thompsonville.

The top three teams in the region advance to the state finals at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University on Oct. 15-16.

The Buccaneers finished third overall in their region with a team score of 393. Rockford (347) and Traverse City Central (366) were the top two finishers.

Grand Haven senior Caydee Constant led her team with an 83, the third-lowest individual score of the competition.

In addition to the qualifying teams, three individuals advance as well. Elise Fennell of East Kentwood (73), Ainslee Hewitt of Traverse City West (87) and Ella Thomasma of Hudsonville (92) all move on to compete at the state finals.
