WHITEHALL — Not much has slowed Oakridge’s softball team early in the 2024 season with the exception of a University of Michigan-bound pitcher from Escanaba.

Even then, it took Grayson LaMarche and her Eskymo teammates eight innings to edge the Eagles, 1-0, in a Lakeshore Slam showdown Saturday at Ross Park.

Tuesday at Whitehall, Oakridge’s powerful lineup was back to work. Oakridge swept host Whitehall, 17-0 in three innings and 16-1 in four innings, en route to the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division sweep.

Oakridge (7-1 overall, 4-0 WMC Lakes) totaled 13 hits in each game against Whitehall (1-7, 0-2 WMC Lakes).

The Eagles clubbed five home runs in the two games combined, including two by Madison Clark and a grand slam in the nightcap by Ahria Doornbos. Kaelinn Jozsa and Brenna Cabrera also went deep. Jozsa doubled in each game as well. Jozsa and Kylee Willea picked up pitching wins for Oakridge.

Annabel Kevwitch homered for Whitehall in the second game.

In the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association Division 2 preseason poll, Oakridge was ranked honorable mention.
