Coming off an emotional high of winning a district championship in overtime Friday, Shelby’s girls soccer team knew it would face an uphill battle in Tuesday’s Division 4 regional semifinal against seventh-ranked Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian.
Goalkeeper Biloxi Lee and her Tigers teammates did all they could to hang in there, but the Mustangs were too strong.
Shelby fell to NorthPointe Christian, 4-0, in the contest played at Big Rapids High School. The Tigers’ season ends with a 9-10-2 record.
NorthPointe Christian (17-3-2) advances to Friday’s 6 p.m. regional final against Elk Rapids (15-8-0), which defeated Midland Calvary Baptist 3-0 in the other semifinal Tuesday.
NorthPointe Christian has been on quite the roll in the state tournament. In last week’s district tournament on their home field, the Mustangs knocked off third-ranked North Muskegon in the semifinals (2-1) and top-ranked Western Michigan Christian in the finals (3-2).
In Tuesday’s match against Shelby, NorthPointe Christian took a 2-0 first-half lead and doubled it up in the second half.
