WHITEHALL — Another school year is in the books.

CatchMark SportsNet put an official capper on the 2022-23 academic year by honoring several West Michigan Conference student-athletes with our Player of the Year banquet for 2023 spring sports Saturday night (June 24) at the Viking Athletic Center.

For the second time, we brought the production to viewers online in addition to those in attendance at the VAC with a free livestream of the awards portion of the banquet. You can rewatch the stream on our CatchMark SportsNet YouTube channel at the top of this story.

CatchMark highlighted some of the top spring sports performers from the 14-school West Michigan Conference.

A crowd of roughly 65 people attended the event, including student-athletes, family members, coaches and other supporters, plus members of the CatchMark team. Attendees mingled and enjoyed a taco bar dinner.

Scott DeCamp, product lead and lead writer for CatchMark SportsNet, emceed the event.

Three finalists from each of seven springs sports were honored with all nominees receiving certificates and the Player of the Year winners presented individual trophies. A larger trophy with award winners’ names engraved on it resides in the CatchMark office in Whitehall, 112 E. Colby St.

The CatchMark SportsNet panel consisting of DeCamp, Conner Raeth, and Tate Stine nominated three athletes for each sport. Our readers decided the winners through a fan vote that generated nearly 45,000 total votes.

The award winners included Ravenna’s Emma Herremans in softball, North Muskegon’s Ben Meyers in baseball, North Muskegon’s Natalie Pannucci in girls soccer, Whitehall’s Malcolm Earvin in boys track and field, Hart’s Jessica Jazwinski in girls track and field, Fremont’s Killian Prewitt in boys golf, and North Muskegon’s Fia Lindsay in girls tennis.
