Vikings Offense Absent En Route to Loss Against Portland

Whitehall finishes the regular season (6-3), and Portland heads into the postseason undefeated.

PORTLAND—Whitehall (6-3) traveled halfway across the state to take on an undefeated Portland team that has been cruising all season. The Vikings’ offense has been quite the rocky road this season, as injuries have derailed any success they have seen.

348 is the total points Whitehall has put up this season, most of which coming against its West Michigan Conference foes.

Seniors Gavin Craner and Abram Stoudt were inactive in the loss to go along with Ryan Goodrich and Parker Mott who are out indefinitely. All of which were key starters back in week one.

The Raiders from Portland got off to a hot start, scoring on its first drive, and carried the momentum heading into intermission leading 21-0.

Soon enough the score was suddenly 35-0 to Portland’s advantage after the third quarter.

However, Whitehall found the endzone early in the fourth quarter with junior Hunter Osborne rushing around the end for the Vikings’ first and only score.

Portland then tacked on two more scores in the fourth resulting in a 49-7-win Friday night.

Whitehall, just 1-12 on third downs in the game, several being third and long.

Defensively for the Vikings, they were immune to stopping the run—Portland, running wild last night with a total of 416 rushing yards with an absurd 10.7 yards per play on the ground. Running back Nolan Zbytowski was the focal point of the rushing attack contributing 144 yards with four touchdowns.

Senior QB Camden Thompson went 13-20 and 147 yards in the air as well as one INT. Thompson’s number one target, Blake English hauled in all six targets and finished with 74 yards receiving.

For Whitehall, they finish the regular season as West Michigan Conference champs with a (6-0) conference record and (6-3) overall record. They now wait for selection Sunday tomorrow at 4:30 PM EST on FanDuel Sports Network (Formerly Bally Sports).
