CatchMark Play of the Week nominations for Oct. 18-23 (Billy Mann | CatchMark)

To no surprise, Muskegon-area athletes put their athletic talents on display for all to see. CatchMark SportsNet brings you three Play of the Week nominations for Oct. 18-23.

Watch the video above to see the Play of the Week nominations. Cast your vote in the poll at the bottom of this story. The poll will close Friday, Oct. 29, at noon.

Here are descriptions of the three nominated plays to offer context:

Play 1: Rayne Thompson smacks down a laser of a kill just clearing the net against North Muskegon in the West Michigan Conference tournament final this past Saturday. Thompson finished the day with 31 kills as the Vikings coasted to victory without dropping a single game throughout the day. Thompson reached the 1,000 career kill mark and broke a school record for kills in a game earlier this season.

Play 2: Muskegon Catholic Central’s Joe Waller punches in a touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the 1 to even up the game at 28 with 12 seconds remaining in a big Week 9 matchup against Oakridge. Following the TD, Waller added the deciding two-point conversion and led his team to a 30-28 victory, the Crusaders’ second straight thrilling finish. Waller had a standout performance with a game-high 107 yards on 13 carries.

Play 3: Oakridge scores a nifty touchdown 10 seconds before intermission with a sneaky halfback pass play from Brenden Raymond to Lorenzo Garcia to make the score 19-16. Corey Vanderputte added the two-point conversion run to put Eagles ahead 21-16 heading into the break. Despite their diligent efforts, the Eagles lost a nail-biter to Muskegon Catholic Central, 30-28.
