Boys and girls high school bowling regionals began Thursday and continue Friday and Saturday for West Michigan Conference teams and individuals.
In team regional competition, the top three squads advance to the state finals.
Here is a roundup of the action from Thursday (Feb. 23, 2023):
DIVISION 3 AT SHERMAN BOWLING CENTER
Orchard View’s boys team placed second in a Division 3 team regional at Sherman Bowling Center in Muskegon to earn a spot in the state finals March 3-4 at JAX 60 in Jackson.
The Cardinals, champions of the West Michigan Conference and Greater Muskegon Athletic Association tournament, rolled a 3282 to finish only four pins behind regional champion Hudsonville Unity Christian. Portland (3238) finished third to round out the state finals-qualifying teams from this regional. Oakridge placed sixth (3020), Whitehall ninth (2825) and Montague 14th (2485).
On the girls side, Grand Rapids West Catholic won the regional with 2857. Comstock Park (2760) and Unity Christian (2638) were second and third, respectively. Oakridge placed fifth (2581), Whitehall seventh (2258), Orchard View 13th (2151) and Montague 14th (1915).
DIVISION 3 AT WESTGATE BOWL
Fremont’s boys bowling team placed 15th (2497) in a Division 3 team regional at Westgate Bowl in Comstock Park. Grand Rapids Northview won the regional with 3378, followed by state finals qualifiers Sparta (3269) and Fruitport (3263) in second and third, respectively.
On the girls side, Fremont placed eighth (2285) in the regional. Sparta won the regional title with 3046, followed by Northview (2737) and Cedar Springs (2715) in second and third, respectively.
