West Michigan Conference wrestling: Roundup from Feb. 1, 2023

Regular season wraps up; conference tournament this Saturday at Orchard View.

West Michigan Conference wrestlers wrapped up the 2022-23 regular season Wednesday night with tri-meets and quads at various locations.

Below is a roundup of the action reported to CatchMark SportsNet on Feb. 1, 2023. The conference tournament is set for 9 a.m. this Saturday at Orchard View.

NORTH MUSKEGON TRI-MEET

North Muskegon hosted its first high school wrestling meet in 45 years, it’s estimated, as the Norse swept Holton (52-11) and Oakridge (51-16). In the other match, Oakridge defeated Holton (35-18).

WHITEHALL QUAD

Whitehall hosted a WMC quad including Mason County Central, Ravenna and Shelby. The Division 3 fourth-ranked Vikings defeated Ravenna (72-6) and Mason County Central (65-12). Going 2-0 for Whitehall were Cody Manzo, Max Krukowski, Ryne Christensen, Darnell Mack, Ryan Goodrich, Wyatt Jenkins, Jackson Cook and Shane Cook.

In another match, Mason County Central beat Shelby (47-36). Junior 132-pounder Zane McCabe earned his 100th career win and claimed a pair of victories on the night. The Spartans’ Hunter Sanford and Colter Kirchner also were double-winners.

FREMONT TRI-MEET

Hart defeated Orchard View (63-15) and Fremont (57-19) in a conference tri-meet at Fremont to finish the regular season with a 28-5 dual record, including 11-1 in the WMC. Days after Hart’s Zane Thomas recorded his 100th career victory, senior Bryce Jorissen (138) reached the milestone.

HESPERIA QUAD

In a conference quad at Hesperia, the host Panthers defeated Montague (51-26) and Manistee (84-0). Double-winners for Hesperia included Stephen Priese, Alex Sayer, Blake Sayer, Skyler Stalbaum, Ryan Fuentes, Scott Quinn, Brock Bolles, Deegan Klaus and Marcus Hoaglin.

In another match, Montague beat Ludington (84-0). The Wildcats finish the regular season with a 16-9 dual record. Wrestlers going 2-0 for Montague included Chris Aebig, Joe Winkelman, Tyler Risch and Tristan Winkleblack. Ava Pelton was 1-0 for the Wildcats.
