Dozens of wrestlers from the West Michigan Conference qualified for the MHSAA’s 2023 individual state finals at Ford Field in Detroit.
Day 1 of the finals is in the books after a busy day of grappling Friday. On Day 2 Saturday, several wrestlers from the conference will be all-state accolades.
Whitehall senior Shane Cook remained undefeated at 61-0 in the 285-pound weight class of Division 3 and he will vie for a state title Saturday. He’ll take on Birch Run’s Landon Roe (44-6) in the championship match. Cook is the lone wrestler from the conference still in contention for a state title.
In another appealing match Saturday, on the girls side of competition, Montague junior Savannah Winkleblack and Mason County Central sophomore Nyveah Wendt will tangle again. They’re both still in contention for third place.
