Western Michigan Christian Rolls Past Fremont in 6-0 Showcase

Rain may have kept some area teams off the field Tuesday, but it did not slow down Western Michigan Christian. The Warriors played through the wet conditions in dominant fashion, turning early pressure into a convincing 6-0 win over Fremont in the featured girls soccer matchup of the week.

WMC controlled the pace from the start and broke through late in the first half when freshman Sophia DeJonge scored to make it 1-0. GillyAnne Beckley added another before halftime, sending the Warriors into the break with a 2-0 lead.

The second half was all Warriors. Mia Oppenhuizen scored off a nice assist from Eve Pollock, DeJonge added her second goal of the night, and Pollock and Brynn Evans followed with back-to-back goals to finish the shutout win.

DeJonge led WMC with two goals, while Beckley, Oppenhuizen, Pollock and Evans each added one. Abigail Derdowski earned the shutout in goal, and the Warriors got strong midfield play from Lainey Postema, Beckley and Allie Buchner to keep Fremont under pressure all night.

Fremont goalkeeper Hallie Snyder finished with 12 saves, but WMC’s relentless attack and control on both ends made this one of the Warriors’ most complete performances of the season.
