Player of the Week

Whitehall football’s Darnell Mack wins Player of Week poll for Oct. 23-28, 2023

Senior running back looked as strong as he has all season in last week’s playoff opener.

Darnell Mack appeared to be as fresh as he’s been all season in Whitehall’s 28-7 first-round playoff football win over Allendale last Friday.

The senior running back had some extra pep in his step.

Same goes for Mack’s victory in the CatchMark SportsNet West Michigan Conference Player of the Week fan poll. He took the lead in the early going and never looked back.

Mack racked up 2,319 of 4,666 total votes in the poll. Hart football player Connor Edwards was runner-up with 887 votes.

Six WMC fall sports athletes were recognized for their performances spanning Oct. 23-28, 2023. See complete voting totals for the six Player of the Week nominees at the bottom of this story.

The 5-11, 165-pound Mack stepped up for top-ranked Whitehall last week in the Division 4 first-round playoff game. Mack, who missed some time earlier in the season because of an injury, ran as strong as he has all season. He carried the ball 15 times for 117 yards, including a nice 33-yard touchdown run to put Whitehall up 21-0 early in the fourth quarter.

Whitehall (10-0) will look to continue its playoff march when the Vikings take on Big Rapids (9-1) in the district championship game tonight at Holton’s Red Devil Stadium. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
