Whitehall’s Riley Buys wins CatchMark Player of the Week (Jan. 24-29)

Over half of total votes lands Whitehall grappler as Player of the Week

Voters have determined that Whitehall wrestling’s Riley Buys is the CatchMark Player of the Week for Jan. 24-29.

This is Buys’ first nomination of the season, and the third nomination for the dominate Whitehall wrestling program.

The Viking senior has been a fundamental part of the success for Whitehall’s Division 2 second-ranked wrestling squad. The 130-pound standout earned his 100th career victory this past weekend at Whitehall’s home event, the Rick Champion Duals.

Buys finished the day 5-0 while contributing bonus point victories for the Vikings, who outscored their opponents 287-70 on the day.

The stud grappler continues to be a force to be reckoned with and the Vikings continue to roll with their current 22-0 record.

Buys’ weekly performance received 59.1 percent of the total vote, landing him in the No. 1 spot. North Muskegon hooper Troy McManus followed with a runner-up finish and 31.6 percent of the total vote.
