Whitehall’s Strong Second Half Not Enough in Loss Against Zeeland West

WHITEHALL – Division four Whitehall took on a hard-nosed Zeeland West squad Friday night. The Dux put on a clinic in the first half, outscoring the Vikings 38-7. Some issues did occur in the second half, but Zeeland West prevailed and hung on to win 60-43.

The Vikings showed incredible grit through all four quarters, specifically the second half. “I’m really proud of them; they showed a lot of resilience,” said coach Tony Sigmon.

Camden Thompson, who played most of the offensive snaps at quarterback, went 15-17 for 220 yards in the air and three passing touchdowns. Thompson also played a vital role on the ground, rushing for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Coming out of the half for Whitehall, we saw senior Ryan Goodrich take multiple snaps at quarterback, something we saw towards the end of the game against Hudsonville Unity Chrisitan back in week one. “We want to make sure we utilize our roster to the fullest,” Sigmon said.

“He’s been working on this a long time and puts a lot of time into the game,” said Sigmon when talking about WR Blake English. English had a break-out performance on Friday, capturing six receptions for 118 yards and two total touchdowns, one on the ground.

Senior Keaton Hendricks led the charge for the Dux, scoring three total touchdowns, all in the first half. Trey Sloothaak was given the nod under center heading into the game, but sophomore Drew Albrecht entered the game at QB coming out of the locker room at halftime. Whitehall outscored Zeeland West 36-22 in the second half.
