WMC girls basketball: Hart, Montague enjoy big victories on senior night

Mason County Central and Oakridge also victorious Tuesday, Feb. 8.

It was a full slate of West Michigan Conference girls basketball games on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022.

Here is a roundup from those four games:

MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 49, SHELBY 37: At Shelby, the host Tigers struggled out of the gate and went down 11-5 after the first quarter. Down the stretch, a 14-point fourth quarter and the Spartans’ solid defense resulted in victory for MCC.

MCC leaders:

Wren Nelson 13 points, 8 rebounds

Adria Quigley 8 points, 7 rebounds

Shelby leaders:

Kendall Zoulek 13 points, 4 rebounds

Aubrey Klotz 7 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists

Ella Olmstead 7 points, 4 rebounds

MCC 9-5 overall, 6-4 WMC

Shelby 9-7 overall, 5-5 WMC

OAKRIDGE 40, RAVENNA 28: At Oakridge, the host Eagles used a strong second quarter to lead the Bulldogs 20-13 at halftime. In the final quarter of play, Oakridge capitalized on scoring opportunities to earn its fourth conference win.

Jasmine Pastor 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals

Anna Lundquist 9 points, 12 rebounds, 5 steals

Ravenna leaders:

Emma Gilliard 13 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals

HART 54, WHITEHALL 14: At Hart, the host Pirates utilized great energy to create a positive experience for senior night. A strong defensive effort led to a 17-4 advantage over the Vikings after the first quarter. A 16-4 run gave the Pirates a 39-8 lead heading into halftime. Late in the game, transition baskets resulted in a Hart victory.

Hart leaders:

Addi Hovey 16 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals

Mariana VanAgtmael 12 points, 6 steals

Abby Hicks 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists

Morgan Marvin 7 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks

Whitehall leaders:

Hart 13-2 overall, 11-0 WMC

Whitehall 7-10 overall, 5-6 WMC

MONTAGUE 47, NORTH MUSKEGON 24: At Montague, the Wildcats created a 27-7 first-half deficit for the visiting Norse. After the break, Montague used many weapons off the bench to lock in a victory. Prior to the game, there was a short ceremony to celebrate Montague’s seniors. Watch a replay of the senior night festivities and the game in the video above.
