WMC girls basketball: Hart, Montague, Shelby, Whitehall earn league victories

It was a busy night in West Michigan Conference girls basketball Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Four games were on the docket. Here’s a roundup of that action:

HART 54, MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 43: At MCC, the visiting and Division 3 10th-ranked Pirates jumped out to a 16-4 advantage in the first quarter of action. Down the stretch, the Spartans put in a comeback effort to pull within four points. Hart responded with big 3-pointers from Morgan Marvin and Kendal Williamson and claimed victory.

Hart leaders:

Addi Hovey 13 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals

Abby Hicks 11 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals

Aspen Boutell 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists

Morgan Marvin 8 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals

MCC leaders:

Jaden Petersen 13 points, 7 rebounds

Wren Nelson 10 points, 16 rebounds

Records:

Hart 10-1 overall, 8-0 WMC

MCC 6-4 overall, 4-3 WMC

MONTAGUE 56, OAKRIDGE 44: At Montague, the host Wildcats led 23-22 in a scrappy first half of play. In the fourth quarter, the ‘Cats outscored the Eagles 24-9 and completed their sixth win in the league.

Claire Meacham 10 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks

Emma Peterson 8 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists

WHITEHALL 41, RAVENNA 29: At Ravenna, Whitehall built a nine-point lead in the first quarter and held that margin throughout to earn the Vikings’ fourth league victory.

Ravenna leaders:

SHELBY 33, NORTH MUSKEGON 12: At North Muskegon, it was a slow-moving first half as Shelby took a 12-5 lead into the break. The visiting Tigers broke it open in the third with a 15-1 scoring advantage.
