Holton, Manistee record Division 3 first-round district wins in games rescheduled from Monday.

Two girls district basketball openers involving West Michigan Conference teams were played Tuesday night.

Here is a roundup of the action from Feb. 28, 2023:

DIVISION 3 AT LAKEVIEW

HOLTON 46, LAKEVIEW 39: Big efforts by Ryann Robins and Layla Cannady, along with a spark from Aubrey Goyings, helped Holton overcame some early adversity and earn a Division 3 first-round district victory over host Lakeview. The game was originally scheduled for Monday, but it was postponed because of inclement weather.

Holton point guard Abbie Fowler suffered a back injury in the first minute of the game and did not return in the first half. The Red Devils fell into an early 11-2 deficit and trailed 23-19 at the half before Robins & Co. heated up. Robins finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds to power Holton, while Cannady scored 15 points and Goyings added seven to go with 10 boards.

Holton (12-11) advances to Wednesday’s 7 p.m. district semifinal against former Central State Activities Association foe and ninth-ranked Kent City (18-4).

DIVISION 3 AT MANISTEE

MANISTEE 56, GRAND TRAVERSE ACADEMY 23: Division 3 district host Manistee extended its winning streak from the regular season to three games and notched its fourth victory in five contests by cruising past Grand Traverse Academy. The game was scheduled for Monday, but it was postponed because of inclement weather.

Jayna Edmondson led Manistee with 14 points, while Libby McCarty had nine points and Allison Kelley eight rebounds.

Manistee (11-12) advances to Wednesday’s 7 p.m. district semifinal against eighth-ranked Traverse City St. Francis (19-2).
