MUSKEGON — The Muskegon Big Reds wasted no time establishing control in their Division 1 district semifinal matchup against Greenville, surging to a 31-14 halftime lead and fending off the Yellow Jackets down the stretch to secure a 58-41 victory Wednesday night at Reeths-Puffer High School.
With the win, the fourth-ranked Big Reds (20-2) clinched their 13th consecutive appearance in a district championship game under head coach Keith Guy, continuing a remarkable era of postseason success.
Darryl Thompkins Jr. led the charge for Muskegon with 17 points, while David Cross Jr. contributed 11 points. Elija Langston and Keashaun Johnson each added eight points in the balanced scoring effort.
Greenville (22-2) was paced by Braylon Haist, who scored nine points, while Zeke Robinet chipped in seven. The Yellow Jackets fought to stay within striking distance but struggled to keep pace with Muskegon’s defensive pressure and transition game.
The Big Reds now shift their focus to a highly anticipated district championship showdown with No. 6 Rockford (21-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. at Reeths-Puffer. The matchup will pit two of West Michigan’s top programs against each other in a battle for a regional berth.
