Kelley Era Kicks Off: Hart Boys Soccer Shows Grit in Season-Opening Invite

Something new for Hart Soccer…

When CatchMark’s own Jonah Kelley was hired as the new head coach of the Hart boys soccer team earlier this summer, it marked the start of a new chapter for the Pirates. That chapter officially opened this past weekend as Hart hosted its annual season-opening Hart Invite.

While the results were mixed, Hart showed determination, growth, and flashes of potential, all signs of a program being rebuilt with purpose.

Game 1 – Brooklyn Columbia Central 5, Hart 2
The Pirates opened the day against a strong Columbia Central squad. Despite the 5-2 loss, Hart’s offense created multiple chances and converted twice, showing they have the ability to compete and put pressure on quality opponents.

Game 2 – Hart 2, Maple City Glen Lake 2
In the afternoon, Hart bounced back with a gritty 2-2 draw against Glen Lake. The Pirates played with more balance, made adjustments, and battled throughout, demonstrating resilience under their new coach’s guidance.

Kelley stressed that the early matches were more about progress than final scores.

“We’re building a foundation,” he said. “The boys showed fight, and they’re already learning to play with more discipline and belief. That’s the culture we want to create.”

Next Up for the Pirates

  • Scrimmage: Monday, August 18 at 4:30 p.m. vs. Traverse City St. Francis at Hart High School
  • League Opener: Monday, August 25 at 5:30 p.m. vs. Ludington at Hart High School

Both contests will be opportunities for the Pirates to continue sharpening their play as they step into conference action. With the energy and direction Kelley is bringing, Hart fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about where this team is headed.
