Fremont Outlasts Ogemaw Heights in Five-Set Thriller, Advances to State Semifinals

On Tuesday night at Ferris State University’s Bulldog Arena, the Packers delivered another dramatic performance, rallying past Ogemaw Heights in a five-set battle to secure their first-ever state quarterfinal victory and punch their ticket to the Division 2 state semifinals.

The win marks yet another milestone for a Fremont squad already experiencing a season of firsts, coming just days after earning the program’s first regional championship.

A Roller-Coaster Match

Ogemaw Heights opened the match with a dominant 25–12 win in the first set, establishing early control and putting Fremont on its heels. The second set remained tight throughout, with Ogemaw Heights leading 19–18 late, but Fremont surged at the finish to claim a crucial 25–22 win and even the match.

That momentum carried into the third set, where the Packers edged out a 25–23 victory to move ahead two sets to one.

Ogemaw Heights refused to go quietly, responding with a strong fourth set and taking it 25–20 to force a decisive fifth.

In the winner-take-all finale, Fremont raced to an 8–2 lead before Ogemaw Heights mounted a fierce comeback to go ahead 13–12. But the Packers again showed their resilience, scoring the final three points to seal a 15–13 triumph and close out the match.

With the 3–2 victory, Fremont moves to 38–13 on the season.

Balanced Team Effort Fuels Fremont

Fremont’s postseason success has been defined by contributions across the roster, and the quarterfinal win was no exception. A mix of veterans and young talent helped propel the Packers past another tough opponent in a tense five-set environment.

Strong performances came from multiple positions—attackers, servers, and defensive specialists—reflecting the team’s depth and improved competitive edge as the tournament has progressed. Fremont’s senior leadership continued to play a critical role, setting the tone for a lineup that also includes key sophomores, juniors, and freshmen.

A Community Rallying Behind History in the Making

Fremont’s athletes have embraced the spotlight as their postseason run has drawn growing attention across the region. The program’s strong regular season laid the foundation, but its spirited tournament performances have elevated excitement within the school, the district, and even rival communities.

The energy surrounding this team has intensified with each comeback victory and each new milestone reached. As the Packers head deeper into uncharted territory, support continues to swell around a group that has proven its resilience time and time again.

Next Stop: Battle Creek

With the quarterfinal win, Fremont advances to the Division 2 state semifinals on November 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. The Packers will face Flat Rock (36–7), which swept its quarterfinal match in dominant fashion.

Ogemaw Heights concludes an impressive season at 30–7–2, having earned its first regional championship before falling just short of a semifinal berth.

Fremont now prepares for another high-stakes showdown, carrying confidence, momentum, and a chance to continue rewriting its program’s history.
