A busy midweek slate of high school basketball delivered plenty of action across the West Michigan area, highlighted by dominant performances, late-game drama, and rivalry showdowns on both the boys and girls sides. From commanding wire-to-wire victories to gritty comeback wins and tightly contested conference battles, teams showcased depth, resilience, and timely execution from Wednesday through Friday. Several squads used strong second halves to pull away, while others leaned on defense and free-throw shooting to close out hard-fought contests, setting the tone for an eventful stretch of the season.
BOYS BASKETBALL
North Muskegon 58, Shelby 37
North Muskegon pulled away in the second half to secure a 58–37 win over Shelby. NM led 32–22 at halftime and continued to build the advantage behind defensive pressure and balanced scoring, extending the lead to 43–27 after three quarters before closing strong in the fourth.
Manistee 51, Whitehall 44
Manistee used grit and late-game execution to earn a 51–44 road win over Whitehall. The Mariners led 8–2 after the first quarter and 19–8 at halftime.
Whitehall erased an 11-point second-half deficit and tied the game at 41 late, but Manistee went 15-of-20 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Landin Sowa and Braylen Zimmerman scored 13 points apiece for Manistee. Elijah Smith and Alex Winczewski led Whitehall with 13 points each.
Ludington 75, Montague 33
Ludington dominated from start to finish in a 75–33 victory over Montague. The Orioles jumped out to a 20–6 first-quarter lead and went into halftime ahead 44–17.
Ludington continued to roll in the second half, leading 62–27 after three quarters and closing out the lopsided win.
Hart 65, Ravenna 59
The Pirates rallied after trailing 30–22 at halftime and outscored the Bulldogs 26–14 in the fourth quarter to earn a 65–59 win. The Pirates trailed 11–10 after one quarter but surged ahead late behind strong second-half execution.
Hesperia 68, Holton 47
The Panthers controlled the rivalry matchup from early on, leading 42–18 at halftime and 61–35 after three quarters. The Devils found a brief hot streak from beyond the arc in the third quarter but were unable to sustain momentum as the Panthers pulled away for the 68–47 victory.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Fremont 75, Oakridge 23
Fremont responded to an earlier loss with a dominant performance, defeating Oakridge 75–23. The Packers led 23–5 after the first quarter and 48–15 at halftime. Fremont shut out Oakridge 17–0 in the third quarter, forcing a running clock midway through the period.
Fremont knocked down a season-high 15 three-pointers. Taylor DeKuiper led the way with 17 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. Roxy Martin (12), Ella Shriver (11), and Taylor Johnson (10) also reached double figures.
Manistee 41, Whitehall 36
Manistee held off Whitehall 41–36 in a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division matchup on a special Veterans Appreciation Night at Whitehall High School.
Manistee led 9–8 after the first quarter and 18–14 at halftime. The Mariners carried a 30–25 lead into the fourth quarter and made enough plays late to keep Whitehall at bay.
Avamae Fett scored 13 points to lead Manistee, while Lindsey Gardner added 12. Whitehall was led by Peyton Schultz with four three-pointers and 14 points, and Clare Westerlund added 10.
Ludington 60, Montague 34
Ludington pulled away in the second half for a 60–34 road win over Montague. The Orioles led 18–15 after one quarter and 33–23 at halftime.
A decisive 19–3 third quarter pushed Ludington’s lead to 52–26 entering the fourth.
Claire Keith led Ludington with 13 points, Eloise Kwietniewski added 12, and Jacee Cole scored nine. Montague was paced by Gentry Knop with 15 points.
Shelby 49, North Muskegon 30
Shelby raced to a 14–3 first-quarter lead and never looked back in a 49–30 victory over North Muskegon.
Jayna Burmeister led Shelby with 15 points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Annabelle Stark added 13 points and nine rebounds. Delaney Young scored a game-high 17 points for North Muskegon.
