The Lakeshore Badgers had a packed weekend at the West Shore Community Ice Arena, starting with a dominant Senior Night performance Friday before returning Saturday afternoon for a competitive matchup against Genesee.
Friday, Jan. 9: Badgers Roll Past New Boston on Senior Night, 11–1
The Badgers hosted New Boston United Friday night and wasted no time setting the tone in front of a strong home crowd on Senior Night. After trading chances early, Lakeshore seized control with three first-period goals and never looked back on the way to an 11–1 win.
New Boston scored its lone goal on the power play midway through the second period, but Lakeshore responded with a game-breaking surge, piling in eight goals in the second to put the game out of reach.
Lukas Schade (MCC senior) and Jacob Bielski (Manistee freshman) each recorded hat tricks to lead the offensive outburst. Additional goals came from Owen Adair (MCC sophomore), Ben Wisenbaugh (Pentwater sophomore), Cyric Jabrocki (MCC junior), Ryan Higley (LHS junior), and Grant Hill (LHS freshman), who was voted the team’s Player of the Game.
Lakeshore also won the shot battle, finishing with 28 shots, while New Boston recorded 27.
On the discipline side, both teams finished with 10 penalty minutes.
“I was very happy with the effort and execution from the team tonight, particularly in the second period,” said the Badgers’ coach. “We’ve spent time working to improve our power play and overall defending over the last week. Our performance tonight reflected that improvement and our ability to shut down New Boston’s offense and generate offensive pressure on the forecheck.”
Saturday, Jan. 10: Badgers Drop Hard-Fought Game to Genesee, 6–4
Lakeshore returned to action Saturday afternoon for a matinee against the Genesee Generals, entering the contest riding momentum from a four-game win streak. The Badgers struck first just over two minutes into the game, but Genesee answered late in the period and then took the lead with a shorthanded goal with 16 seconds left in the opening frame.
The teams traded goals in the second, and Lakeshore kept pushing throughout the third, getting two more tallies, but Genesee finished strong with three third-period goals — including an empty-netter late — to secure a 6–4 win.
Badgers scoring (per scoresheet):
- Levi Young – 2 goals (including the opener and a third-period goal)
- Adrian Lundberg – 1 goal
- Cyric Jabrocki – 1 goal
Genesee held the edge in shots, finishing with 41, while the Badgers had 28.
Goaltender Brockton Jabrocki took the loss, stopping 35 of 41 shots.
Penalty-wise, Lakeshore was whistled for 6 penalty minutes, while Genesee finished with 4.
“I was happy with the team’s performance this afternoon,” the coach said. “We carried play and were able to generate offense with our forecheck. Defensively we limited their shot and overall rush chances and played low risk hockey. Genesee has two strong players who we were not able to contain that made the difference for them tonight.”
