Kieffer’s 20 Saves, Hart’s Rout, and Whitehall’s Strong Start Headline Local Soccer Action

From jaw-dropping saves in freezing conditions to explosive offensive outbursts and dominant shutouts, the opening weeks of the girls soccer season are already delivering excitement across West Michigan. While the past two weeks have been relatively quiet due to spring break across both conferences, teams are now back in action—and quickly making up for lost time with standout performances and statement wins.

Manistee 0, Traverse City Homeschool 3
Manistee goalkeeper Campbell Kieffer was the standout despite the loss, recording an impressive 20 saves in just her second varsity appearance. The Bulldogs capitalized on early defensive miscues, scoring twice in the first half (31:22, 24:07). The Mariners struggled to maintain possession and have now been held scoreless through two games (0-2). Coach Kathy Smith noted improved second-half defensive adjustments but emphasized the need for better ball movement and possession.

Hart 8, Reed City 0 (Mercy Rule)
Hart exploded offensively in a dominant shutout win. Addie Barefoot led with a hat trick (3 goals), while Olivia Bradley tallied 2 goals and 4 assists in a commanding midfield performance. Natalie Rosema added 2 goals, and Jaidyn Reyna scored in her varsity debut. The Pirates’ defense allowed zero shots, with goalkeeper Baleigh Klotz earning the clean sheet. Hart’s high press and ball control overwhelmed Reed City from start to finish.

Whitehall 4, Grant 1
Whitehall opened its season with a strong road win, powered by goals from Izzy Causie, Kate Beda, and Reese Hesse, plus a Grant own goal. Beda added 2 assists, contributing to a balanced attack. Defensively, the Vikings limited Grant to 5 shots on goal, with goalkeeper Kaylyn Blaske making 4 saves to secure the victory.
