Fruitport Sweeps Ludington in Doubleheader
The Ludington varsity softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Fruitport, falling 10-3 and 12-1.
In the opener, Madison VanSickle went the distance in the circle, pitching all seven innings while striking out eight. Despite her effort, Fruitport capitalized on nine hits and four walks to pull away. Offensively, Madelyn Kenyon provided a highlight with a solo home run, while Jacee Cole, Charlie Morse, and Taylor King each added a hit.
Game two proved more challenging for the Orioles. Annika Heemstra started in the circle, pitching 1 1/3 innings before VanSickle came on in relief. Ludington struggled to contain Fruitport’s offense and couldn’t generate momentum at the plate, with Cole and Kenyon recording the team’s only hits in the 12-1 loss.
Following the games, Ludington head coach Sierra Holmes pointed to inconsistency as a key issue.
The Orioles fell to 5-6 on the season after the sweep.
