Shelby, Hart and Ravenna represented in Week 3 of CatchMark’s Player of the Week series

This past week there were an abundance of standout performances, but CatchMark Sports has narrowed it down to three nominations. This week’s winner will follow Whitehall’s Ira Jenkins who was voted the Player of the Week in round 2 of the series.

Nominations and voting will be released each Wednesday at 8 a.m. and voting will close Friday at noon. Shortly after, the winner of the CatchMark Player of the Week will be announced.

Without further ado, here are the nominees for Week 3 of the CatchMark Player of the Week series brought to you by VanDyk Mortgage. Read the description of each player’s performance and cast your vote at the bottom of the story.

Addi Hovey, Hart

After losing her senior Jayd Hovey to a knee injury last week, freshman sister Addi Hovey was forced to step up to the plate and contribute heavily to Hart’s offense. She did just, scoring 17 points in a rivalry matchup at Shelby and 13 points against Whitehall to round out the week with two team wins and two impressive offensive contributions.

Joseph Hayes, Shelby

Four-year player Joseph Hayes has been a big part of Shelby’s hot 2-0 start in the West Michigan Conference. After defeating North Muskegon in close battle, the Tigers were able to carry that momentum to Oakridge in week 2 where Hayes led the offensive push with 28 points to keep his team tied for 1st place in the league.

Grant Becklin, Ravenna

In a game that came down to the wire, Ravenna’s Grant Becklin put his clutch ability on display against Hart. With a few seconds remaining on the clock, Becklin layed in a basket to give the Bulldogs the 59-58 advantage. In that matchup, Becklin scored 15 points, had 10 boards and notched 3 assists. The senior standout plays among two other seasoned players (Kyle Beebe and Travis May) that contribute heavily to Ravenna’s offense. Together, the veteran trio have led the ‘Dogs to a 2-0 first place tie in the WMC.
