In the Fairway

A road, a boat and two lawns: CSN crew finds ’em all in latest ‘In the Fairway’ golf episode

White Lake Golf Club was the second stop of CatchMark SportsNet’s fun and informative series.

When CatchMark SportsNet’s crew sets out for an “In the Fairway” shoot, the goal is always to land in the fairway.

That doesn’t always happen. In fact, it seldom does.

What we did find in Episode 2 of the fun and informative summer golf series was a well-groomed course along the shores in Whitehall: White Lake Golf Club.

While playing a handful of holes, we may have landed in the fairway a few times but also found a couple lawns, a road and a boat. It seems there are no restricted areas when we’re wielding the sticks.

On a serious note, the goal of the show is to highlight local golf courses, their histories, some of their unique features and why you should play those courses.

White Lake Golf Club, located at 6777 S. Shore Dr., has been a private club since 1916. You’ll have to become a member or know some people in order to play it, but the folks there keep the 18-hole course in great shape. As a bonus, the golf club features a nice practice facility complete with a range and chipping and putting area.

With spectacular shots of the golf club, White Lake and Lake Michigan, along with our customary playful banter and some ugly swings, you’ll be sure to enjoy this episode. We caught up with Bill Borgman, head PGA professional at White Lake Golf Club, where he has been since 1995, and he provides insight.

Oh, and for the boy who located one of our golf balls in the lawn of a home along South Shore Drive after an errant tee shot on No. 18, you can keep it! (Disclaimer: The ball may have struck a boat parked along the road before it settled in the lawn.)

Hope you enjoy Episode 2 of “In the Fairway!”
