Andy Hernandez’s five-goal game leads Montague to soccer rout of Manistee

Wildcats blank Mariners, 6-0, in WMC action.

The competition for the goal-scoring lead on Montague’s boys soccer team was a tight one prior to Monday’s match against visiting Manistee.

That changed in a short amount of time. Andy Hernandez now has a comfortable lead on the Wildcats’ list.

Hernandez, a senior, poured in five goals in leading Montague to a 6-0 rout of Manistee in a West Michigan Conference match. That gives him 13 goals on the season, four more than Carlos Meza.

Eli Bunton made 12 saves to record the shutout in goal for Montague, which visits Oakridge next Monday and hosts league-leading Fremont next Wednesday.

Manistee is 6-2-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the WMC.
