Evan Jud powers Whitehall past Montague in boys soccer rivalry match

Vikings edge Wildcats, 3-2, two days after knocking off Ludington.

Evan Jud scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner with 5:15 remaining, to lift host Whitehall to a 3-2 West Michigan Conference boys soccer victory over rival Montague Wednesday night.

Mason Mulnix assisted on the winner for the Vikings (4-5-0, 3-2-0 WMC), who have enjoyed a big week. On Monday, they upset visiting Ludington, 3-1.

Jud’s first goal of the night came on a free kick with 7:10 left in the first half and gave Whitehall a 2-1 lead.

Mulnix also scored a goal on a free kick for the Vikings, who visit Orchard View next Monday and host Manistee next Wednesday.

Andon Palmer made eight saves for Whitehall, which was outshot by Montague, 17-14 — 10-8 on goal.

Montague’s Jack Degen broke a scoreless tie with a goal assisted by Lucas Husband with 28 minutes left in the first half.

With 25:42 left in the second half, Montague’s Trevor Trevino tied the game at 2 on a goal assisted by Trevin Silvers.

Eli Bunton made five saves for the Wildcats (6-6-0, 2-3-0 WMC), who host Manistee on Monday.
