Balanced Montague boys basketball team wins home opener vs. Newaygo

Four players in double-figures lift Wildcats to 68-48 victory.

Four players finished in double-figures as Montague’s boys basketball team won its home opener vs. Newaygo, 68-48, on Tuesday night.

Senior Paul Olson led the Wildcats (2-1 overall) with 17 points, while senior Isaiah Atchison scored 15, senior Owen Raeth had 13, and junior Kellan Francis contributed 11.

After a high-scoring, tight first quarter in which Montague led 19-15, the Wildcats broke it open with a 19-7 run in the second quarter.

With the loss, Newaygo sees its record even at 2-2.

Next up for Montague is a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division contest Friday at Orchard View. Newaygo hosts Central Montcalm in a Central State Activities Association Gold Division matchup on Friday.
