CatchMark catch-up for Week 8: See how Muskegon-area football teams fared

Whitehall’s 34-14 victory over Montague in the “Battle for the Bridge” was the big show down Friday night, but several other noteworthy games took place in Week 8 in the Muskegon area.

OK GREEN CONFERENCE

Muskegon 47, Reeths-Puffer 21

Jakob Price rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in leading the visiting Big Reds (7-1, 6-0 OK Green) to a victory against the Rockets (3-5, 2-4 OK Green). Muskegon outrushed R-P to the tune of 342-87.

Myles Walton was 5-of-8 passing for 147 yards with two TDs. Destin Piggee and Jeramiah Dault were on the receiving ends of those scores. Walton and Piggee scored one TD apiece on the ground. Dault notched 9 total tackles on the night.

Reeths Puffer’s Ben Veihl was 9-of-16 in the air. Brady Ross scored two rushing TDs and Veihl added one in the loss.

Mona Shores 76, Holland 24

The visiting Sailors (6-2, 5-1 OK Green) outrushed the Dutch (1-7, 1-5 OK Green) 321 to 35 yards and picked up another conference victory coming off a tough loss to Muskegon in their previous Week 7 matchup.

Mark Konecny went 10-of-12 passing for 167 yards and five TDs. Demetri Roberson was the target of two of those TD passes. Dahmir Farnum added two scores on the ground for the Sailors.

OK RED CONFERENCE

Grand Haven 7, East Kentwood 26

East Kentwood (2-6, 2-4 OK Red) took advantage of a slow first half for Grand Haven (3-5, 2-4 OK Red) on their home turf and picked up their second conference win. The Falcons stole the advantage over the Buccaneers in the air totaling 217 passing yards to their 48.

Owen Worthington went 5-of-15 passing and Ryan Francis rushed for Grand Haven’s only TD.

OK BLUE CONFERENCE

Spring Lake 28, Grand Rapids West Catholic 41

The Falcons’ (7-1, 5-1 OK Blue) strong second half gave them the upper-hand over the Lakers (6-2, 4-2). West Catholic outrushed Spring Lake 342-169.

Tim Kloska carried the ball 18 times for 169 yards and three TDs for the Falcons. Noah Arsulowicz was 5-of-11 passing with a lone TD.

Jackson Core targeted the endzone three times completing 7 passes on 18 attempts for 167 yards in the loss. He also added a rushing TD.

Fruitport 22, Allendale 14

Fruitport defeated Allendale in the OK Blue matchup. Fruitport rises to 4-4 overall, 3-3 in the OK Blue. Allendale now sits at 3-5 and 1-5.

West Michigan Conference

Ravenna 36, Oakridge 43

Oakridge (7-1, 5-1 WMC) secured a piece of their league championship with their win over Ravenna (5-3, 3-3 WMC). The Eagles edged the ‘Dogs on the ground 397 yards to their 316.

C. Vanderputte scored three TDs and rushed for 199 yards on 22 carries. Trevor Jones and Brenden Raymond also added TDs in the Oakridge victory.

Hunter Hogan ran for 236 yards on 11 carries and two TDs. Clay Schullo also added a rushing TD. Kyle Beebe was 15-of-24 in the air for 102 yards for the ‘Dogs.

Shelby 12, Hart 70

Kellen Kimes led the way for the Pirates (3-5, 1-5 WMC) completing 18 passes on 28 attempts for 306 yards and five TDs as they secured their first league win over the Tigers (0-8, 0-6 WMC). Hart breaks up their losing streak with 515 total offensive yards in the victory.

Chance Alvesteffer made eight catches for three scores, and Emanuel Hertzler was targeted three times and found the endzone twice.

CSAA GOLD DIVISION

Fremont 21, Reed City 46

Reed City (7-1, 7-0 Central State Activities Association Gold Division) sealed the deal with a big 30-point third quarter against Fremont (1-7, 1-6 Central State Activities Association Gold Division) at home in the CSAA Gold matchup.

Justin Dirheimer rushed for 164 yards on 27 carries and scored once in the loss for the Packers.

Howard City Tri County 30, Big Rapids 28

The visiting Vikings edged the Cardinals in the CSAA Gold Matchup and improve to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in their division. Big Rapids falls to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in the league.

Grant 21, Central Montcalm 25

Grant fell in a close CSAA Gold game in their trip to Central Montcalm. The Hornets rise to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the division. Grant is now 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the CSAA Gold.

Newaygo 7 , Chippewa Hills 24

Newaygo lost to Chippewa Hills on the road in the CSAA Gold Division. Newaygo sinks to 1-7 overall, and 1-6 in the league. The ‘Chips posted their first win of the season improving their record to 1-7 overall, and 1-6 in the division.

NONLEAGUE

Centreville 16, Muskegon Catholic Central 24

Sam Convertini made a huge catch in the endzone with six seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Crusaders (7-1 overall) the victory over the Bull Dogs (6-2 overall). Muskegon Catholic had 154 passing yards to Centreville’s 57.

Convertini had 120 yards on five targets alongside his clutch game-winning touchdown reception. Elliot Reigler was 6-of-10 for 110 yards and one TD. Sam Kartes led the Crusaders with 10 tackles.

North Muskegon 35, Mason County Central 0

The Norse traveled to Scottville to complete a non-league shutout victory over the Spartans. The Norse racked up 317 total offensive yards to the Spartan’s 90. North Muskegon is now 3-5 overall and MCC falls to 2-5.

Ben Meyers completed seven passes for three TDs. Matt Colbert (2) and Brandon Rypstra (1) were on the receiving end of those scores. Meyers also tacked on a rushing TD.

Muskegon Heights Academy 14, Carson City-Crystal 41

Host Carson City-Crystal (7-1) secured a 19-0 halftime lead against Muskegon Heights (5-2) and never looked back. The Eagles outrushed the Tigers 246-58 led by Cole Stone with 132 yards on 26 carries and three TDs.

Damond Davis headed up the Tigers offense with two receptions for 111 yards, including an 80-yard TD.

Morley Stanwood 6, Ludington 35

Visiting Morley Stanwood (5-3) lost to Ludington (3-5) in a non-league matchup Friday night. The Orioles picked up their third win of the season with a big 28-point first half.

Aidan Gilchrist and Nathan Gilchrist made touchdown grabs for the Orioles. Trey Forkinski completed six passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

Hartford 6, Kent City 46

Host Kent City (5-2) defeated Hartford (0-8) 46-6 as the Indians are still looking to earn a win this season. Kent completed the game with a balanced offense as six separate Eagles scored touchdowns. Mason Westbrook scored two himself on eight carries for 66 yards. Kyle Montarusso led Kent City with 7 tackles.

White Pigeon 50, White Cloud 0

White Pigeon shutout White Cloud in the non-league matchup. The Chiefs improve to 6-1 overall and White Cloud falls to 4-4.

The Chippewas roll past the Panthers in the non-league matchup. Manistee climbs to 5-4 overall and Hesperia sinks to 0-7.
